5 Tips on How to Shop For Your Wedding Dress

The time is here. After years of imagining and envisioning, it is finally time to shop for your wedding dress. You are beyond excited but have absolutely no idea how to go about wedding dress shopping? Well, worry not, for I am about to share the five wedding dress shopping tips you need to know to help you find the dress of your dreams.

1. Always start with some research

Leaf through bridal magazines, stalk bridal houses’ social media accounts, and create a mood board — anything and everything that can help to narrow down what you like. Then, look for a common pattern or a theme. Do they all have mermaid silhouettes? Are they overwhelmingly lacy? Are you especially drawn to sweetheart necklines? All these commonalities will be extremely helpful for when you do hit the bridal boutiques.

2. Let’s talk about money

Before you actually commission a dress made entirely out of diamonds to fulfil your childhood dreams of becoming a princess, set a budget. Have a peek at your wedding budget and figure out how much you are willing — and able — to spend on your wedding dress. Keep in mind to also factor in the costs of alterations, accessories (including shoes and veils), undergarments, and more.

3. Hit the shops early

Procrastination may be an art form for a lot of things but not when it comes to your dream wedding dress. Allow yourself plenty of time to find and perfect your dress. Aim for around nine to twelve months before your wedding. Alas, as there is no fairy godmother around to instantaneously conjure up dream dresses, most dresses take around four to ten months to be made. Remember that you likely will also need alterations and multiple fittings.

4. Reconsider the big entourage

In the movies, it always seems like such fun to bring along a big group while wedding dress shopping. But trust me, it is not. With emotions running high and the gravity of it all, it is so easy to be overwhelmed or pressured by way too many opinions. Instead, invite along two to three people whose view you truly value, respect, and trust. They will make wedding dress shopping fun and memorable, as it should be.

5. Keep an open mind
